philosopeacocke

Ha! Lang Leve het huweLijk.

mis

cats & noodles

I love Asian food. Yesterday, Arnon & I ate Sushi till we dropped. Arnon had a tough time with the raw squid and I couldn’t handle the uncooked fish-skin. luckily, there was sake to save us. After that, a subset of friends came with us to the Upstairs Lounge, only to have every coherent thought knocked out of us by stiff beats. Nice to give my body a vote again in the democratic process called living.
The sun is still warm and the air is fresh and clean. the best time of the year. This morning, Shaun picked me up for church and his mom took us and Shaun’s brother to the most fancy chinese restaurant ever afterwards. Plastic walls, flashing lights, colourful fake flowers and carts passing by with the most delicious undefinable pieces of edible stuff.
I was dropped off at Dennis Deschene’s house & his lovely wife Mary. They have four cats, which are the most spoiled creatures on earth. I’m going to stay here tonight. big house, wifi, tea and lovely people. I have deserved none of this.

incoherent and uncomfortable

now the world is overflowing again with light and noises, all things start to fall back into place once more. i thought much about this phenomenon: waking hours in the night being the most unstable moments in my life. it is then that i’m not able to produce any coherent thought or prayer and that i can only repeat the name of this, that must exist.
i was raised with the sense that something is fundamentally wrong with this world and my place in it. reformed churches are experts on that. this burden was lifted from me in an all-changing moment of joy, when i was shown that the Almighty had said yes to me. it still changes, but in a way that the first thing might become true again. we are called to be uncomfortable. despite the love for this earth and its inhabitants, despite the joy of learning, breathing, stumbling, marvelling and making love.
the great thing about travelling is, tactfully ignoring the decadence of the activity, that you have to find a new stance towards the world. which makes the talks with arnon, dennis, sarah, shaun all the more fresh and vibrant. which makes the cindy’s in the streets all the more raw and uncomfortable. i somewhat suspect that living with the Almighty launches you into this lifelong restless journey.

dennis

dag

It’s crazily hot here. Almost 90 F. Which is more than 30 degrees C. adjusting to english is as hard as adjusting to the time and the heat. however, moving in the orbit of this parallel planet for a while is a happy experience. this world still exists. not long anymore, for people will be finishing up and moving out. but for now, i can be part of it again.
Michael, the photographer in Meshugga’s café recognised me. Sarah treated me and welmoed an iced coffee. the penguings in the zoo were as shiny and active as ever. we ran into Sylvia, the girl that took me to the missouri mycological club [nondrugsmushroomsclub] and Kathy, another philosopher. We plundered Rag-O-Rama, the vintageclothingheaven and watched Monsieur Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Quoran with Arnon, who made us spaghetti. and we discussed non-referring contents on the patio, which is basically a rusty bench under the metal stairways just outside the backdoor. all quite wonderful.
driving to st louis remembered me of J and me and our roadtrip through the states. rolls with lettuce, tomatoes and chips, simon and garfunkel and endless miles of red dusty nothingness. and the sleezy motels at night of course, hiding from the weird noises outside in jaap’s arms. I apparently don’t only live right now and here.
well. there are jobs to do. and letters to write. but not at this moment.

US of A
