beyond haggis & bagpipes

from festive edinburgh: hello.
we’ve cooled down quite a bit in the west of scotland. misty mountains, swampy bogs, pesty midges and perpetual rainfall. well, these are the highlands and we better enjoy it.
and we do. we drink cider and whiskey, buy loads of smoked salmon [really, just 5 pounds per kg], read books, climb not-so-high-mountains and skip all the real walks we could do, but don’t feel like doing. and we drive around in my brother’s corsa that needs a jumpstart every morning. like us, because we sleep at least 12 hours per night, strapped in our ridiculous mummybags.
the emptiness, the countless lochs, the silence, the lack of need for human beings. it’s all quite discomforting. but frightingly beautiful. I don’t know. I would probably only survive with a fat scottish pony, a fast wifi connection and visiting friends every other week.
but for now, the city life [yes, yes, utterly void in other senses, but how colourful and fancy]. we’ll be back.
