shelter

from the warm heart of the manor house - the study room - a short message. i’ve embraced the life in l’abri completely: getting up at 7.30, digging in the dirt in the morning, having discussion lunches, studying in the afternoon and listening to lectures or watching films in the night. all interrupted by huge amounts of tea & milk.

I’m learning how to be fearless. this truly is a house full of fearless christians. i listened to luci, the artist in residence, talking about her making contemporary art and trying to engage with every piece of art, regardless of how appalling or repulsive it might be. I talked with surya from nepal, who told me he was excommunicated from his hindu village after converting to christianity. I talked with Stephan, a philosopher who challenges me to dive into the big questions without leaving God out.

being christian does not mean we should approach the world with a scheme of what is right and what is not right to deal with. being christian means we have to engage with all and everyone. listening to the stories people have. taking everyone’s message serious. We are created as complex beings. which entails that we have more ways of reacting to events and people than just ‘this is good’ and ‘this is bad.’
